[back] He was a real cowboy – no fake. HEC Brand was L. [stamp] Harry Chrisman Lane D, Apt. 74 Bluebonnet Courts Liberal, Kansas [note glued on back] Bernard Lemert, late of Liberal, Kansas. Bernard was an old cowboy, foreman of the Crooked L ranch holdings on Sharp’s Creek, No Man’s Land, in 1888-1892. He was inspector for the Southwest Cattleman’s Assn for years. Here, on visit to Crooked L in 1957, Bernard roped the photographer. Astride horse in back is McNaughten, co-owner with Batman [horse] of present Crooked L, Meade, Kans. Bernard rode on roundup of 1884, wrote story of it.
