[note] Photo shows the author in the Tonto Basin area of Arizona, not far from the treasure known as the Lost Tonto Basin Bonanza. On the Arizona Treasure Map [Arizona Treasure map underlined], published by E.K. Ellis, 72 treasure sites are shown. One [insert sign]local treasure tale tells of two [insert sign]Mexican sheepherders who discovered the skeletons of seven soldiers on the north slope of Mount Ord, Arizona, in the early 1870’s. A rich gold ore was found nearby, and the sheepherders packed $30,000.00 of it to Phoenix, then returned to their homes in Old Mexico. It was presumed that the soldiers, while convoying the ore, were attacked and killed by Indians who placed no great value on the metal. Photo courtesy author. (underlined)
